0.1-percent solution

Call it the triage of Dr. Duopoly: Since it is the top 0.1 percent of America’s economic elite whose lobbyists and campaign contributors can make themselves heard in Washington and state capitals, we should not be surprised that “our” representatives — both Republican and Democratic — consistently act in the interests of that elite and with callous disdain for the consequences felt by the other 99.9 percent of us.

Mammonolatrous priorities

Until corporations cease to be “people” and constituents are no longer drowned out by floods of cash, this will not change except for the worse. A pair of constitutional amendments addressing these issues, forced through against the preferences of the elected servants of the powerful and unscrupulous by overwhelming public demand, is overdue.

Perhaps we should start circulating petitions now and build a groundswell long in advance of the next election.
