Mammonolatry

Introduction and Table of Contents

America, seat of global empire, is a religious country, and even more so in its ruling elite than in the general population. Of 535 members, Congress contains exactly one open atheist; every president elected since the 18th century has professed some sort of faith; and of our nine Supreme Court justices, six are Catholic and three Jewish.

But what do our leaders, in government and business, really worship? We think it is not God, but Mammon, the false “god” of wealth, and John Milton’s “least erected spirit in heaven” before he joined Satan in revolt: he who looked not for the countenance of God, but at the gold in the pavement beneath his feet.

At the webmaster’s discretion, this index page may later be replaced with an essay describing what mammonolatry is, what its de facto establishment as our state religion means for our lives, and how to rid ourselves of the depraved sect that professes God but prays to the Almighty Dollar. For now, however, it is only that: an entry-point for this section.

As you will have noted, this site is divided into twelve distinct areas (“subdomains,” technically), accessible on every page via the navigation tabs surrounding the banner image near the top. These we call sections, and they roughly correspond to the “categories” found on some popular blogging platforms.

In turn, almost every section contains a number of directories and subdirectories corresponding to classes of topics within the more general subject area of the section, and within those (sub)directories are pages addressing topics falling into the indicated class. Where some individual pages should be placed is sometimes a difficult decision, since the articles on them touch on multiple topics; we have done our best to classify such pages intuitively, but you are invited to advise us if you feel that a page is misclassified.

Below and to the right, you will see a menu for this section. Every page in the section appears on it, so if you’re looking for an article on this subject, you need look no farther. If the article you want is in a different section, click one of the tabs atop any page to enter the appropriate section. And if you’re not sure, you can find all the pages on this site listed, with descriptions and excerpts, on our Site Map.

If you want a particular article and still can’t find it, click the “Contact Us” link at the bottom of the page, and we will do our best to help you.

And if you don’t have a specific article in mind, explore at will.
